Who We Are

Village Government

Village Government

Ashkum is a rural farming community in Iroquois County, Illinois. We're located about halfway between Chicago and Champaign right off of Interstate 57.

With a population of 800, we offer  a quiet, safe community to raise a family, but we're close enough to the city and large employers.

Our History

Our History

"Ashkum" originated from a Native American

word meaning "more and more."  The village

was named after Potawatomi Chief Ashkum

The Village was in 1856  on railroad land. The first election was held in 1861.  .

Our Sesquicentennial celebration was held in 2006.
