Ashkum is a rural farming community in Iroquois County, Illinois. We're located about halfway between Chicago and Champaign right off of Interstate 57.
With a population of 800, we offer a quiet, safe community to raise a family, but we're close enough to the city and large employers.

"Ashkum" originated from a Native American
word meaning "more and more." The village
was named after Potawatomi Chief Ashkum
The Village was in 1856 on railroad land. The first election was held in 1861. .
Our Sesquicentennial celebration was held in 2006.
